New Years Resolution

This year our goal is to send home an e-newsletter every month. Our schedule is crazy, busy this year, but we are going to try! Thank you for reading!

100th Day of School

This year the 100th day of school is on Tuesday, February 4. It is our tradition in K-1 that students dress for that day of school as if they were 100 years old. Costumes are, of course, not mandatory, and we have lots of clothing, wigs, bald caps, hats, etc. to loan for photos. We will be writing a paragraph that day about what it will be like to be 100: What will they eat?  Where will they live and with whom?  What activities will they do for fun?  What will they look like? We will include the photo of each child in costume with their writing.

Valentines Day

We will be having a party in our classroom on Valentine's Day, February 14, from about 10:45-11:45.

If your child decides to give out valentines, please have one for EVERY child in his or her class (21-Flynn, 22-Dupree.) We do not want any one to feel left out.

If your child wishes to make or sign valentines for the students in the other K-1 class, that is fine. Be sure to have one for each child.

Special valentines for children in other classes may be given out after school or at recess.

Have your child sign each of the valentines, but DO NOT address the valentines to specific students.

DO NOT send any candy in the valentines. Candy attached to valentines will  have to be removed before they are passed out.

Thanks for your cooperation and support.

Students have been learning about the different states of matter. Ask your child about what he or she remembers.

Kindergarten Math - At this point in the year, students should be able to recognize numbers 0-20. We will be working on addition and subtraction fact fluency for facts to 5.

First Grade - After each unit, students are assessed on what they know. The assessments will come home in the Friday Folder. As a reminder, Part A contains skills students should have mastered, Part B has skills we are still working on.

Math fact memorization is always a challenge for Kindergarten and First Grade students. We just discovered a great, fun tool for practicing facts: the Minute Math Electronic Flash Card by Learning Resources. Our hope is to get some for the classroom, but you might want to get one for your child.
